MARK CORREIA MAKES MAGIC HAPPEN TO RAISE $25,000 FOR PARKINSON'S RESEARCH How do you know you're a great performer? Maybe oohs and aahs would give it away? Laughter? People yelling things like "that's insane" at you as you pull a thread out of your eye? Or jumping to their feet as you guess a participants card based on telepathic, concentrated mind-reading oddities? Would that make us believe you're a great performer? I've worked in theatre for a long time and never thought any of those things were ever possible. Staged performances in a theatre often elicit silence throughout the show and no one can ever know whether or not they're succeeding. Good thing for a man I now named Mark Correia, a young, hilarious magician who has been writing and performing his own magic acts since the tender age of six years old. It's true, after knowing him now for merely a year, I've learned time and time again that Correia is a gifted young up-and-coming Canadian talent that I'm lucky to know but I only recently learned how generous he is. Now, twelve years after his magic debut, he's performing a mega international stunt in partnership with The Michael J. Fox Foundation and it's all to raise awareness and 25,000 dollars for Parkinson's Disease research. This summer, in the biggest stunt that he's ever organized, Correia will be living in a straight jacket for a week and blogging about it every second of the day. Eventually he will perform a long-awaited escape trick out of the jacket at the end of the 14-day period and, believe me, knowing Correia personally, I can assure you that you will be so charmed by him, the stunt will literally have you sitting on edge. It's a crazy idea (good thing he's in a straight jacket....terrible joke...) but it's actually quite poetic. Parkinson's Disease, a degenerative disorder, targets your central nervous system and makes basic movement difficult. Aha! Wouldn't a stunt impairing Correia's movement pay perfect homage to the troubling disability that results from the disease? We'll make sure this stunt makes it into the 2014 Poetry Almanac and you can make sure that you congratulate Correia on his generosity and thoughtful use of his brilliance by contributing to the cause. Take a look at this video to learn all about how you can help! Escaping Parkinson's will kick off this coming Tuesday on The Global Morning Show.
